CalEPA Holds CUPA Application Appeal Hearing
Time: 7/17/2019 1:30:00 PM
Place: 940 West Main Street, El Centro, CA
On July 17, 2019 the California Environmental Protection Agency (CalEPA) will hold a public hearing to consider the County of Imperial’s Certified Unified Program Agency (CUPA) application appeal. The hearing is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m. at the Imperial County Board of Supervisors Chambers located at 940 West Main Street in El Centro.
The Certified Unified Program oversees regulatory issues related to hazardous wastes and underground storage tanks in businesses throughout Imperial County. Since 2005, the Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) has been designated as the CUPA responsible for implementing regulatory oversight. On August 31, 2018, the Imperial County Fire Department submitted an application to CalEPA to become the CUPA for the Imperial County region.
On December 18, 2018, a public hearing was held in El Centro to consider the County of Imperial’s application. On March 19, 2019, after consideration of over 90 written comments and 17 public comments made at the hearing, CalEPA issued a formal denial of the County’s application.
Members of the public will be given an opportunity to voice their opinion or concerns about the application appeal during this open hearing. Spanish language interpreter and recording services will be provided.
