Libraries Empower All to Read Now!
HELP FOR ADULTS WITH READING AND WRITING
LEARN Imperial Valley Mission Statement:
- To provide student-centered assistance, at no cost to the participant, to all adults seeking help with basic reading and writing skills
- To provide volunteer tutors with the training and resources needed to support each student's individual goals
- To work with libraries in the Imperial Valley to educate our communities about literacy and the issues surrounding it
DO WE SERVE?
We serve Imperial Valley adults over 18 (or 16 if not enrolled in school) who would like to improve their reading and writing skills.
ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
We need compassionate, patient volunteer tutors who are motivated to give back to their local communities by working individually with adults who would like to improve their reading and writing skills.
ARE TUTORS AND LEARNERS PAIRED?
Each adult learner is assessed by a LEARN staff member and matched with a tutor based on location, availability and interests. Tutors and learners meet weekly at their local library branch.
ARE TUTORS AND LEARNERS SUPPORTED?
After tutors and learners are paired, they remain in frequent communication with LEARN staff and are supported with materials and guidance to ensure the best experience for learner and tutor.
CAN YOU BECOME A VOLUNTEER TUTOR OR LEARNER?
Contact LEARN Imperial Valley by phone or email. Leave your name and a phone number where you can be reached. A LEARN staff member will be in contact with you to get you started!
DO LEARNERS COME?
Learners often want to improve their chances for success for themselves and their families. Their goals frequently include getting better jobs and reading to their children.
By volunteering with LEARN Imperial Valley, you can make a difference in someone's life and help build stronger communities.
