Board of Supervisors Approve Road Improvement Projects for Desert Shores and Heber Townsite
On October 23, 2018, the Imperial County Board of Supervisors awarded two contracts to Aggregate Products, Inc. as the successful bidder for the Desert Shores Townsite Roadway Improvement Project - Phase II and the Heber Townsite Roadway Improvement Project. The total cost for both contracts is nearly $3 million.
John Gay, Director of Public Works, made the presentation providing details to the Board of Supervisors explaining that the approved road improvements will partially be funded through SB1, the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017.
To date, approximately $2.1 million has been spent on road improvements throughout Imperial County by the Department of Public Works utilizing SB1 funding. The County of Imperial is expected to receive approximately $7.8 million for fiscal year 2018-2019. This funding equates to 49% of the year's maintenance budget for the County road improvements.
Notable roads located within Imperial County that have been completed utilizing SB1 funding include Dogwood Road, Austin Road, Rockwood Road, Drew Road, Snyder Road and Brant Road.
SB1 gas tax allows increased funding opportunities for counties and cities to make improvements to roads, street overlays, improving traffic flow and more. Through Proposition 69, passed by California voters in June, SB1 funding can only be used for transportation projects.
