Indigent Burial Ceremony Announced by Public Administrator
Rosie Blankenship, Imperial County Public Administrator, announces the Imperial County Indigent Burial / Cremation Program will host its first burial since 2010 at Terrace Park Cemetery in Holtville on Thursday, October 18, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. The program was designed to help families who are financially unable to pay for funeral expenses.
Through the Indigent Burial / Cremation Program, decedents meeting the criteria shall be afforded a dignified burial commensurate with their pre-need arrangements and / or ability to pay. When the responsibility for disposition becomes the duty of the County of Imperial, the decedent's evidence intent is to take priority. Upon approval, applicants are limited to direct burial or direct cremation. The County of Imperial does not supplement funds already available to the family or decedent for funeral arrangements.
"Prior to this program, decedent cremains were scattered at sea off the coast of San Diego," as explained by Ms. Blankenship. "Now our deceased will have a beautiful resting place for their loved ones to visit, but most importantly affording the opportunity for the unidentified decedents to one day be reunited with their families after being identified."
The Imperial County Public Administrator is seeking donations for a decorative bench to be placed at the burial site.
