State Route 98/Cesar Chavez Boulevard Calexico Closure Begins Tuesday
EL CENTRO, Calif. - The closure on SR-98 from V V Williams Avenue to Cesar Chavez Boulevard in Calexico will be extended through the Cesar Chavez Boulevard/SR-98 intersection beginning Tuesday at 5 a.m., according to Caltrans.
The closure is needed to accommodate widening the intersection, installing traffic signals and providing railroad improvements as part of the SR-98 Widening Project.
The following detours will be in place for four months:
- Eastbound SR-98: Traffic will be detoured to Kloke Road south to Grant Street east to Imperial Avenue (State Route 111) north.
- Westbound SR-98: Traffic will be detoured to Ollie Avenue south to McKinley Street east, to Harold Avenue south, to Grant Street west, to Kloke Road north.
Motorists on eastbound SR-98 may also use V V Williams Avenue north to Cole Boulevard east, to southbound State Route 111 (SR-111) to westbound SR-98.
Caltrans is widening SR 98 from two to four lanes from Dogwood Road to west of Ollie Avenue, and from four to six lanes from Ollie Avenue to SR-111. Construction will include widening and signalizing six intersections. The estimated total cost of the project is $73.1 million.
Motorists are reminded to Be Work Zone Alert and to move over a lane or slow when driving through highway work zones.
