“Welcome to Imperial County Department of Social Services”

I am happy to present our Second Annual Report on services provided to Imperial County residents through our department. This year, we have included strategic plans and goals for the coming year from the multiple divisions of our department. This report will also be available through our website at:

 http://www.co.imperial.ca.us/icdss/

This has been both an exciting and challenging year for our department. It has been exciting as we plan for implementation of a full service Social Services Department at the Brawley One Stop center. We will be undertaking a major remodeling to accommodate reassigned staff that will service the entire Northend of our county. We are also looking at expanding our presence at the Calexico One Stop center since the Employment Development Department terminated their lease in November, 2008. The Board of Supervisors has recently approved our request to assume responsibility as the major lease holder for one year. This will allow us time to consider longer term space options for the Calexico area. We will sub-lease space to the Employment Development Department, Office of Workforce Development and some other smaller entities in order to continue to provide a wide array of employment related services to our clients.

This year, as many years past, has been a challenging one for our department and the county as a whole as State and Federal Budget issues have resulted in less revenues but with no relief in State and Federal mandates. Fortunately, through collaborative partnerships, we have maximized our effectiveness of services to the community while reducing duplication and inefficiency.

This next year should see implementation of a new CIV automated public assistance system which should greatly enhance the accuracy and processing of applications for all public assistance programs. With the implementation of a new imaging system, we hope to greatly reduce the use of paper.

I want to commend all of our staff and partners for helping us achieve the goals and meet the many service demands in our community in the years ahead. I thank all of those who helped put this brochure together and hope all of you will find it helpful in understanding what a tremendous responsibility each of us has in providing the best possible services to those adults, families and children in need.
